Kakanâcisitacâhk:
Drumming Our Houses Home
An exhibit by
One House Many Nations
February 3 – 20, 2025
Reception: February 6, 6:30pm
Coinciding with the Atmosphere 17 KINSHIP gathering, this exhibit brings together documentation and artifacts resulting from the various projects, research activities, and principles driving One House Many Nations (OHMN), an Indigenous-led initiative aimed at improving housing on First Nations reserves and beyond. OHMN is led by an interdisciplinary team of community members, grassroots organizers, architects, academics, and students. Titled ‘Kakanacisitacahk: Drumming Our Houses Home’, the exhibit amplifies awareness of the ongoing housing crisis faced especially by youth, 2-Spirit and queer individuals from, but not exclusive to, First Nation families and communities.
Crucial to this project is underscoring the long history of colonial imposition that persists in the present. In addition, this project seeks to evince the layers of entrenched systems enforced through settler regimes that have culminated in the current troubling housing circumstance.
